YHOGs departed from the Maverik gas station in Dewey and rode northward out on Fain Road to pick up AZ-89A over Mingus Mountain. Mid-week traffic was minimal, so riders enjoyed a spirited ride along the smooth, twisty pavement and climbed into cooler temperatures at the top. The comfortable temps were short-lived, though, for as soon as the descent from Jerome began, the dry hot air took over and hit triple-digits. Calavera Bar & Grill provided the perfect refreshing break: from the air-conditioned interior to the great food and attentive service, to the lively conversation and camaraderie. It was more than enough to recharge riders for the hot ride home!
