Too see fall colors at the end of September, our best bet will be aspens in the high country. Most of the usual driving trips into the aspens involve dirt roads, or steep rugged dirt roads. One great exception is the road to the Arizona Snowbowl.
Fall Color Ride
Date: Saturday Sep 29, 2018
Destination: Arizona Snowbowl
Meet-up location: Good-2-Go Chevron in Camp Verde. Hwy 260 west side of I-17.
Time: 9:30, KSU 10:00
Mileage: 70 miles Camp Verde to Snowbowl, 33 miles from Crossroads Mall to Camp Verde.
Route: I-17 to Flagstaff then up AZ-180 to the Snowbowl road. 89-A through Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff is an option, but I fear Sedona will be gridlocked by that time of day on a nice Fall weekend.
At the Snowbowl there are great views from the lodge or along a short nature trail. For the more adventurous, you can ride the ski lift for breathtaking views further up the mountain.
Lift tickets are $24 for adults, $19 for seniors (65+). Lunch is available at the lodge. Bring a warm jacket!
